If you’re wondering how to plan a beautiful wedding reception, you’ll find countless resources from step-by-step guides, and food and beverage tips, to layout recommendations. But if you want to add a little magic to your special day, the one thing you absolutely must have is dry ice! That’s why we’ve put together our top five tips for hosting a magical wedding with dry ice.

Tip #1: Dance on Clouds for your First Dance

If you’re like most engaged couples, you’ll spend hours searching for the perfect song for your first dance. But the music isn’t the only thing that will set the mood for one of the most romantic dances you’ll ever share with your new spouse. For an unforgettable moment, transform the dance floor into a cloud using dry ice!

Unlike fog, dry ice does not contain any unwanted chemicals, particulates or odors. Your fog will stay low to the ground, creating a beautiful effect your guests will never forget without blocking anyone’s view. It’s also a great option if you aren’t very confident in your dance skills. People will be so impressed by the fog they won’t notice if you miss a step or two!

We recommend working with your DJ or wedding coordinator to arrange for fog during your first dance, but it’s also possible to do it yourself. Here are our top tips for creating long-lasting fog effects.

Tip #2: Create a Magical Atmosphere with Dry Ice Table Accents

Another way to add a touch of magic to your wedding reception is by decorating the tables with dry ice. For this kind of decoration, a little can go a long way. All you need are a few glass vases filled with warm water and a small amount of dry ice at each table to create a beautiful effect. This is the perfect way to avoid the pre-dinner lull when guests take their seats and wait for the wedding party to make their entrance.

Or, to woo your guests before they even enter the dining room, you can add a fog effect to the table that holds their place cards. You can be as creative as you like!

Tip #3: Keep Food and Drink Colder, Longer at your Outdoor Wedding

Outdoor wedding receptions can be absolutely beautiful, but if your wedding will take place during the warm summer months it can be a challenge to keep your food and drinks cold. Dry ice is the perfect solution to keep things chilled, or even frozen, throughout your reception.

With a temperature of -109.3° Fahrenheit, the cooling power of dry ice is nearly unbeatable. Unlike wet ice, dry ice won’t melt into a watery mess, potentially soaking the food you’re trying to keep cold. You could even serve frozen treats like ice cream sandwiches as part of your dessert table! The possibilities are endless. Learn everything you need to know about packing coolers with dry ice.

Tip #4: Keep Mosquitoes Away

In addition to the heat, mosquitoes can be another challenge during outdoor weddings and receptions. No one wants to worry about their guests swatting and squirming to avoid bites while they should be focused on celebrating the happy couple! Luckily, dry ice can be your best friend here, too.

As you know by now, dry ice is made of frozen carbon dioxide. When placed outside, dry ice will turn into carbon dioxide gas. Mosquitoes will be attracted to that gas because they’ll think a large mammal is nearby. By placing your dry ice next to a mosquito trap at a safe distance from your guests, it can be the perfect way to prevent mosquitoes in the area from bothering anyone. Just be sure to place the dry ice somewhere pets and children won’t be able to reach it, such as on top of a table.

Tip #5: Freeze a Piece of Wedding Cake

After all that preparation, your wedding night will fly by in what seems like a matter of minutes. With any luck, you’ll have beautiful photographs and memories to remember the celebration. And, by using dry ice, it’s also possible to save a piece of your wedding cake to enjoy on your first anniversary while you flip through your wedding album and reminisce.

Freezing your cake in a traditional freezer doesn’t always do a very good job of preserving the flavor, but flash-freezing your cake with dry ice helps keep your cake tasting great even one year after your wedding reception. Learn more here.

I like how the article explains that dry ice can keep food and drinks cold at an outdoor wedding. We are having our reception outdoors and we are needing to keep the drinks cold. We will look into getting dry ice for our drinks.
